SOCIETY. OCIETY President and Mrs. Hoover Entertaining Relatives and Guests Who Arrived Today at White House. HE President and Mrs. Hoover have been joined at the White House by Dr. and Mrs. Francis Odell and_ their daughter, Miss Eleanor Odell, who motored to Washington from their home in To- peka, Kan. Dr. Odell is a relative of President Hoover. Guests arriving at the White House this afternoon are Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Barton of New York. Mrs. Hoover entertained ladies of the congressional circle at tea yesterday afternoon, the open windows, quantities of flowers and a generally homelike air giving great charm to the event. Mrs. Hoover' had assisting her generally the ladles of the cabinet. ‘There will be another tea tomorrow afternoon when ladies of the Congres- sional Circle will be guesw. Mourning at Embassy Bars Personal Social Entertainment. The Ambassador of Great Britain and Lady Isabella Howard have cancelled their personal social engagements be- cause of the death of the Ambassador's nephew, the Hon. Mervyn Herbert, son of the fourth Lord Carnavon. The Ambassador and Lady Isabella Howard will, therefore, not_attend the dinner which Miss Mabel Boardman will give this evening at Grasslands Country Club in their honor. ‘The Hon. Mr. Herbert died in Rome, Ttaly, in the British embassy, after a visit in Albania. His wife was formerly Miss Mary Elizabeth Willard, daughter of the United States Ambassador to Spain and Mrs, Joseph E. Willard. The Ambassador of Brazil, Senhor 8. Gurgel do Amaral, is expected to re- turn to Washington this afternoon. He attended the inauguration of President Machado in Cuba. ‘The Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. Charles Francis Adams will return to ‘Washington Friday from Boston, whes they went for a brief stay. The Secre tary will attend the graduation exercises at the Naval War College today, and following the ceremonies he will be the honor guest at luncheon of Rear Ad- 1 J. R. P. Pringle, U. S.
