Funeral services for Lieut. Comdr. | Edward Breck, U. S. Naval Reserve. retired, who died in Nova Scotia Mon- day, will be conducted here, with in-| terment in Arlington Cemetery, al- though the date of the funeral has not | yet been set { Comdr. Breck was widely known as a | scholar, writer, sportsman and diplo- mat. He had gained considerable rec-| ognition in recent years for his fight carried on against” the use of steel | traps for catching fur-bearing animals, maintaining that the methods employed | in_trapping are cruel. He had a pic- | turesque carcer, with many adventures Comdr. Breck made his home in | this city in the Fairfax Apartments. His death was due to a heart attack Born in San Francisco, July 31; 1861, son of Lieut. Joseph B. Breck, U.'S. N., Comdr, Breck was a descendant of dis- tinguished families of Boston and Phil- | adelphia. He was educated at Oberlin and Amberst Colleges and the Universitie: of Cambridge, Munich and Leiprig, ob- taining the degree of Ph. D., Magna | Cum Laude, from the last-named uni- versity in 1887. For some years Le was Berlin cor- respondent of the New York Herald and the New York Times. In 1895-96 he was vice consul general in Berlin. | Then, during the time of the war with | Spain, he was assistant naval attache in Berlin and spy in Spain. During | the time of his residence in Germany | he sang as a lyric_tenor in opera, and champion of Germany and Austria | with the foil.
