LIVINGSTON, Tex., May 15.—Bodies of three victims were recovered yes- terday as rescue parties pushed into the flooded areas of Polk County in an ef- fort to save persons marooned follow- g a_ 16-inch rain yesterday. A Negro woman and her two chil- dren were found drowned on the west bank of the Trinity River near Long Cane Creek. Reports that a family of four per- sons was lost when swept from a_tree top three and a half miles {from here, as a rescue boat approached, had not been verified. Communication in the flooded dis- tricts was demoralized. An appeal was made today for out- Poard motorboats at Houston. Two Were sent from Lufkin this afternoon. ¥ Fear was expressed for a man named rt'lls_ his wife and two children, who ved in a cottage on the bank of the creek near Goodrich. Searchers werc unable to make their way to where the cottage stood. Ling, station operator, found water knee-deep in his station when he awoke. He got out of bed, waded out- side and was sitting beside the sta- tion contemplating the scene when two light automobiles, swept along by the water, crashed into the building, wrecking it. Citizens rescued Virgil Bull, his wife and five children on the highway near Goodrich, after the water rose to the top of the window of the cottage.
