OTTAWA, Ontario, May 10.—Thirty !thauund Canadians, migrating to the | United States, have decided within the | last 12 months that there’s no place like home. In addition 30,000 American citi- | zens decided to come North and settle | permanently in Canada. Altogether 167,722 immigrants en- | { tered the Dominion through ocean ports | ver the international boundary, 2,798 former Canadians returned anada. The last figure includes 2.793 British subjects with Canadian | domicile and 995 naturalized Canadians. | | The British immigrants numbered | | 58,880, but this included the 8,448 Brit- | | ish miners who came out in the har- | | vesting scheme last year. Out of this number 6,445 also decided there was no | place like home and went back to Great | Britain. Apart from these the total | | British immigration was 161,227, as| compared with 151,597 the previous year. 3 ‘The preponderance of selected immi- gration is being maintained. In addi- tion_to the 58,880 British, there were 29,579 from the preferred countries of Northern Europe. In detail there were: English, 30,355; Scotch, 16,157; Irish, | 9.199; Welsh, 3,189. From the continent | there were:" German, 12.806; French, 745; Belgian, 1,222; Dutch, 1599; Fin- | nish, 3,651; Icelandic, 24; Norwegian, 2,434; Swedish, 3,207; 'Swiss, 490; United States, 0,560. This makes a total of 119,091 pre- ferred immigrants and 48703 from countries other than those named. The Ruthenians came in_ greatest number, | there being 15,571. Polish came ‘next, with 8269; Magyar, 6.242; Jewish, |8301; Lithuanian, 1.608; all other races, less than 1000. The Jewish figures do not include those of Jewish extraction who may enter as of another | race. Farmers still head the list so far as | occupation is concerned.
