WILLIA\/I K./;BANKHEAD, With-Representative;Bankhead of Indiana,-living at the Carlton. Underwood & Underwood, President and Mrs. Hoover Secretary Mellon’s Guests At Reception on Thursday chlef Executive and First Lady Frequently Bow to Public—Noteworthy Society program . of Spring Season. BY SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. President and Mrs. Hoover have been Washingtonians for some years, but the permanent residents and strangers within our gates could scarcely expect to meet them more frequently in public than during the past week. They were both guests of the Secretary of the Treasury at the reception he held Thursday evening in the United States Chamber of Commerce, and they were met on other occasions, while Mrs. Hoover has been particularly active.” She received groups of guests on several occasions and she i8 ho!{dh:% little afternoon receptions €or smaller groups of diplomats | and others. IN midweek she gave one of her little informal teas, inviting a number of guests from Sandy Spring in compliment to the Presi- | dent’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Theodore Hoover, who is a White House | guest. There were some of the relatives of Mrs. Theodore Hoover, who was a Brook of the Sandy Spring family in the company. On another interesting occasion Mrs. Hoover entertained guests at| luncheon in the Girl Scout Little House, thus setting a vogue Ior luncheon parties in the restaurant attached. 'HE Minister of Persia, Mh'l,a Davoud Khan Meftah, gave one 0{ the la;%est and most delightful receptions of the Spring season | when on ursday afternoon he celebrated the anniversary of the | accession of his imperial majesty Reza Shah Pahlavi to the throne. There were several hundred guests, the older diplomats and State! Department officials arriving quite early as is their custom, and | remaining for a short time. However, the drawing rooms were crowded all during the reception hours, and the Minister, receiving | alone, had the attaches of his staff to assist him in a general way. | ND, too, the Minister proved himself the most astute diplomat in the corps when in giving out for publication the list of ac- ceptances for the reception each group of guests was placed on arate sheets of paper, the cabinet and other officials to them- elves, the diplomats on yet another paper, the Vice President and Mr and Mrs. Gann on a sheet to themselves, and other guests, non- official, on still another sheet. This unique and clever thought lefti — each person using the list to follow his or her own whim in ther matter of precedent without compromising the social secretary OI the legation. | OCIETY'S outlook is for two horse shows arranged in rlosel ?mflmlty the junior show to take place Saturday and the annuah Natlonal Capital Horse Show to fill the dates of May 16, 17, 18, and | #0 be held at Bradley Farm, opposite the Congressional Country Club. | The tragmes the box arrangement and, in fact, every detail of thp\ tunior show are as carefully planned as for the lar;zer and more im- ortant event. The hunt ball and breakfast will enliven the big | Mcrse 7show and will be held at the Mayflower Hotel the night of ay 17. PLANS are well formulated for the early season next Autumn, many of the most important debutantes having declared their dates MRS.
