W. Griffith. His. 4 business grew to such proportions that in 1923 it took over other companies and incorporated as the Griffith Coal Corpo- ration, increasing the scope of its activities to include the sale of fuel oil and building material. a{ t The Consumers Company was founded in 1921 by a number. of local business men, The growth of this company was- phenomenal. In the short period of five years it gained' the confidence of so large a number of patrons as to rank with Washington’s leading merchants., In 1927 the volume of business of the Consumers Company had reached the point where an increase in its facilities seemed necessary. On April 1, 1928, these two companies consolidated under the name Griffith-Consumers Company. This consolidation assured their thousands of customers, both retail and whole- sale, of a fuel service second to none in any city in-the country. oy v Today the Griffith-Consumers Company cele- \ . ¢ brates its first anniversary. The loyal sup- port of its many friends and patrcns during the past year is a fact of which this company is gen- uinely proud. A complete and competent Fuel Advisory Department, the purpose of which is to assist in selecting the proper fuel and to advise as to its most efficient use. The services of this department are gratis. The Griffith-Consumers Company is not too large to give per- sonal attention to every order, no matter how small. It is large only in its ability to serve. This company is a Washington organization through and through—with exclusively local interests, and employing only local help.
