But political isolation is by no means the only factor which may induce the foreign minister to free himself from office. Though just past 50 years of age, Stresemann’s health remains pre- carious, and his physicians tell him that a prolonged rest is necessary if he wishes to enjoy a long life. The disap- pointment and disillusions have con- spired to make the German foreign minister tired of political activities. Despite the external eclat of Locarno and Germany's entrance into the League of Nations in 1926, Stresemann has Tailed to gain the goal he set him- self of securing the liberation of the Rhineland from foreign occupation. Despite Germany's acceptance of the {nnclple of compulsory arbitration and ; he Kellogg pact, French suspicions re- ‘main and the Anglo-French pact of last yeer came within a hairbreath of un- doing all the good that Locarno had accomplished. In open bitterness of spirit Stresemann a few months ago, in a talk with foreign journalists, com- pared his task to that of Sisyphus, and as if these difficulties were not enough, there is the never-ending intrigues to oust Stresemann from office by the fol- lowers of that ambitious Dr. Ludwig New Affiliation Urged. Despite the fact that Stresemann has | been head of the foreign office scarcely | more than five years, a few German Republicans of today can visualize the foreign policy of this country as being carried on without Stresemann.
