AVIATION MERGER DENIED BY COMPANY OFFICIAL Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, March 13.—Robert Leh- man, chairman of the executive com- mittee of the Aviation Corporation, re- cently organized with initial capital of $35,000,000 as a development and hold- ing concern, revealed vesterday that as vet the company has acquired interest in no other companies. In’ an official announcement of the purpose of the Aviation Corporation it was said that it was anticipated the holdings would consist largely of the majority of the common stocks of other companies and that interests might also be held in companies not controlled. Yesterday the company was understood in Wall Street reports to have arranged already for acquisition of control of four large aviation companies, but Lehman denied these reports. “All rumors and statements that the Aviation * Corporation,” he said, “has acquired any interest whatsoever in any other companies are entirely unfounded. It has been reported that the Aviation Corporation is about to acquire the con- trolling interests in various other enter- prises, and these reports are also in large part untrue. ‘The companies mentioned in the Wall Street reports officially denied by the Aviation Corporation chairman are the Fokker Co., the Fairfield Aviation Cor- poration, the Aviation Co. of the Ameri- cas and Universal Aviation Corporation. BANK OF AMERICA ‘MAY CHANGE HANDS: Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, March 13.—Despite denials that the control of the bank is| available through market purchase, lh!; rumor that the Bank of America is| about to change hands and be merged | with some other institution became al- | most a conviction in Wall Street yes- terday, where it is believed that the Chase National Bank has made ar- rangements privately for the purchase | of a majority of the shares. i Control of the Bank of America is understood to rest with the Trans- america Corporation, the holding com- pany for the Giannini interests, which | recently made an offer to exchange shares in the ratio of one and one- half shares of Transamerica for one of Bank of America. A merger of the Chase with Bank of America would re- | sult in an institution having resources, based on statements for December 31, 1928. of almost $1,850,000,000. This would be equal to the assets of the National City Bank, although be- low the $2.000,000,000 mark reached by the new Guaranty Trust Co. after its gggfl' with the National Bank of Com~ e. COPPER FUTURES TRADING | PLANNED IN METAL MART By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, March 13.—Coincident with another rise in the price of COp- per, the governors of the National Metal Exchange yesterday decided to | inaugurate trading in copper futures, which, it is believed, will broaden and stabilize the market for the metal. The price of copper for domestic shipment rose one-half of 1 cent yes- terday to 20 cents a pound, which makes the gain in recent months about | 4 cents, and about 7 cents in the past year. The copper market has been unsettled in recent weeks by a rush to buy the metal, and little now is avail- able for earlier delivery than July. ‘The rise in copper today resulte@ from publication of the ~American Bureau of Metal Statistics’ report that the blister and refined stocks of the metal on the American continent drop- ped 17,795 tons to but 290,164 tons during Pebruary.. Blister stocks were reduced 10,259 tons to 234.851, and re- fined, 7.536 tons to 55,313. February production was but 141,385, against 154,472 in January. The National Metal Exchange thus far has traded only in tin futures. A committee has been instructed to draw up rules for the trading in copper and report back to the board of governors. Trading in lead and antimony also is under consideration. ET DULL.
