NEW YORK, March 11—Two Chi-| cago sisters who are seeking to collect 900,000 from the Government for the | alleged illegal use of a patented emer- | gency ration were held in fail yesterday | under default of $1,500 bail on a charge of attempting to defraud the Hotel Am- bassador out of a $661.90 hotel bill. The sisters, Dr._Grace Osborne, 45, and Mrs. Lorena Ferson, 47, were ar- rested on complaint of the hotel man- | ager, who said they had sneaked their | clothes out of their room after promis- ing to pay the bill. They were located in another hotel, traced largely because | they carried a small black kitten with | ‘Women Or.ce Wealthy. ! The two women, once wealthy, worked | for years and spent much of their | money, they said, in perfecting a small | biscuit, said to contain enough food to | sustain a grown person for 24 hours. ‘The Government used their invention, they charged, in perfecting its emer- gency ration used during the World War, and they have been trying to ob- tain & million dollars for the alleged infringement of their patent. They said Senator Royal S. Copeland introduced & bill last May which would direct the treasurer of the United States to pay them $900,000, but the bill had not been passed. Other Charges Made. . When the sisters appeared in court| today, four other hotel managers were | present to estify against them, and the | ‘Willlam MBurns Detective Agency said | it had 25 complaints against them | charging them with “jumping” hotel bills.
