By the Assoclated Press. The Radio Commission began a series of conferences today on the use of 89 short wave channels set aside for com- mercial aviation, and drew a large representation from that fleld, includ- ing Herbert Hoover, jr., of the Western Afrways, Inc. Chairman Robinson of the commis- sion announced that the purpose of the conference was to co-ordinate the views of various aviation operating companies, communication companies and others interested in perfecting and establishing means for communication between air- craft and ground stations and between ground stations along aviation routes. At the same time the commission is considering pending applications for construction permits and licenses for the operation of radio transmitting sta- tions in connection with aeronautical activities. ‘The commission is of the opinion that if the present practice of allocating wave lengths &st aside for aviation is continued, it will result in inefficient communications for aviation, lack of co- ordination between commercial and Government air services, lack of full safety to personnel in aircraft and the slackening of progress in aviation generally.
