One shot was fired at him by Dominik Dee of Frankfort as he leaped from the train while it was moving at a speed of about 35 miles an hour. According to the story told troopers by Fialowski, he was knocked uncon- scious after leaping from the train and lay beside the tracks for about five| hours. Later he made his way into| Herkimer and boarded a bus bound for Cold Brook. Fialowski is said also to have told the | troopers that he had escaped from two | prisons within the past two years and was wanted in this State and in Mis- souri as an escaped convict. Driver Suspicious. Fialowski’s head was badly bruised and his clothing was torn. George Stanfelner, driver of the bus, had be come suspicious of the man, and asked James Kennedy, a passenger, to notify State police. Kennedy dropped from the bus with- || out arousing suspicion and telephoned police who purued the bus in an auto- mobile and took Fialowski off between || Middleville and Newport. Knows Woman Surrenders Active Direction of Illinois Railroad Miss Katherine Wilson Built Line at Alton Into Profitable Carrier. By the Associated Press. ST. LOUIS, February 7.—Thirty years with one railroad, from stenog- rapher to assistant to the general man- ager, during which time the line grew from a 6-mile single-industrial road to a 50-mile one, serving one of the most active industrial districts in the Middle West, was the record left by Miss Kath- erine Wilson when she resigned Tuesday day from the Illinois Terminal Railroad at Alton, Ill. During her years in prac- tical charge of the property her man- agement achieved the reputation of being one of the most profitable rail- roads in the country. The belt line was sold eight months ago to the Illinois Power & Light Cor- poration, which also controls the Illi- nois Traction System, better known as the McKinley Lines, for a reported sum of $7.500,000. The value of the prop- | erty was traced to Miss Wilson’s man- | agement, railroad operators afirm. Miss Wilson had attempted several times to resign since the road was sold, but the new owners repeatedly urged her to remain. Stories regarding her knowledge of operations’are numerous, chief among them the averting of a strike in 1917. Some of the men had walked out, and Miss Wilson climbed into the cab of a locomotive, went to the scene of the strike, there persuading the employes to return to work.
