NORTHWEST SWEPT BYNEWGOLD WAVE | Tales of Heroic Rescues Dur- ing Last Week’s Blizzard Bare Battles. By the Associated Press. DENVER, January 28.—As another severe cold wave swept into the North- west today heroic rescue stories enacted during last week's blizzards continue to " fiiter from snowbound sections, where horses, sleighs, tractors, planes and even trains were pressed into rescue service to bring stricken persons to medical care. Equaling in interest the victory over the elements in taking an 11-year-old Idaho girl over 30 miles of snow-drifted trail to a hospital at Cottonwood, Idaho, was the story of the methods taken to get an ailing caretaker in the Yellowstone out for medical treatment. Herded horses featured in the Idaho rescue, while horses, a toboggan, ambu- lance, a tractor and a special train were used in the Yellowstone rescue. Air- planes located a stricken plane near Elko, Nev., and horses were used to res- cue the pilot and his two passengers, who suffered greatly from exposure when the plane made a forced landing | i in Secret Pass. Jack Worth, Old Faithful Inn Winter “" keeper, was under a physician’s care in Livingston, Mont., today after an epic | [fit battle in the deep snows of picturesque Yellowstone. The last stage of his trip was from Gardiner to Livingston, and when an ambulance was unable to break through the Northern Pacific ran a special train down its branch line to ||| pick up the man, stricken with heart disease. The passengers of the marooned plane, L. J. Pfleuger, San Francisco, and A. P. Ames, Camden, Me., left Salt Lake for their homes last night, after their terrifying experience in the snowbound Nevada desert. ‘The pilot, Frank Bar- ber, who was injured about the head in the crash, was in a serious condition at a Salt Lake hospitai.
