These mental clinics, as they are called, were established by the govern- ment to check the ever-growing num- ber of suicides due to unemployment, financial reverses, sickness and disap- pointed love. The inmates are called guests and are provided with libraries, small moving picture performances, radios and daily orchestra concert. OHLMAN, Ills, January 5.—Sheriffs of two counties today were investigating the mysterious death of Miss Carrie Bruns, 19-year-old postoffice clerk here. ‘The girl’s body, disclosing no marks of violence, was found last night just across the Christian County line, near a hard road. She was brought to Ohlman, m Montgomery County, and both sher- iffs summoned. Authorities could advance no theory for the death, or explain how Miss Bruns was carried into Christian County. CHICAGO, January 5—If downtown hotels refuse to maintain public tele- phone booths, the Illinois Bell Tele- phone Co. will refuse to install addi- tional house telephones over which they may handle public calls for 10 cents in- stead of a nickel, 'his was made clear today as the latest development in the fight between the telephone company and downtown hotels, drug stores and cigar stores over the division of receipts from public pay statians in these places. ‘The telephone company offered a new contract providing that establishments having public pay stations receive a flat 7221, per cent of the receipts in- stead of dividing them with the tele- phmoe company after paying a guaran- tee. of four calls daily from each booth as- previously provided. ‘The establishments having the booths have refused to sign the contracts and some of them have been charging 10 oents a call. e * Chicago has 20 high school bands. 235 ASK HANGMAN’S JOB.
