14 SOCIETY I"[rs. C(;olidg_e Yesterday Attended Debut Tea of Miss Jardine, Only Cabinet Bud. RS. COOLIDGE and the Presi- dent’s entire cabinet, now in ‘Washington, attended the coming-out tea dance of Miss Marian Jardine, daughter of the Secretary of Agriculture and Mrs. Jardine, at the Mayflower yesterday afternoon. The only cabinet bud of the season, Miss Jardine's tea was turn into a genuine ovation and the flowers she received would have decorated the ‘White House state suite with due credit to a florist. A tall, white latticed screen was placed behind Mrs. Jardine and her daughter and Miss Ruth Nebeker, cousin of the debutante, who stood with them, flowers so arranged as to form a graceful tracery of pink almost covering it. Blue lights were thrown at the base of the screen and on the tables in the reception room were tall vases and banks of flowers. Secretary Jardine, accompanied by Mrs. Kellogg and Mrs. New, met Mrs. Coolidge at the door on her arrival and her on her departure. She wore a black coat of graceful lines, with a wide white fox fur collar and deep for cuffs. Her closely fitted hat was of silver embroidery and very be- coming. She lingered for a long time speakthg with Mrs. Jardine and her daughter, and held a little reception of herl own as she passed about the tea table. Mrs. Jardine wore for the afternoon & gown of black chiffon over pale pink lace, her corsage bouquet correspond- in color. Miss Jardine's gown was of oyster white chiffon and d'Alcon lace, the short skirt showing long draperies. She carried the bouquet of pink roses and fern sent to her by the President and Mrs. Coolidge. Miss Nebeker was in a dainty gown of amethyst color chiffon and lace. The Chinese room where the T-shap- ed table stood was almost lined with palms and flowers, with gay Christmas colors predominating. At each end of the table were huge plaques of scarlet carnations and fern, and along the center of the table were gracefully ar- baskets of poinsettia. Mrs. Kellogg and Mrs. New presided at the tea table for some time, the former wearing an afternoon costume of burgundy color velvet, and Mrs. New in a costume of black satin, the be- coming hat showing a little wider brim than she has worn this season. Mrs. Edward Everett Gann, who took WMrs. Kellogg’s place at the table, wore a mmt costume dfn‘s gllnm“l red velvet, the COTTespon color. -~ Also with Mrs. Jardine were_Princess de Ligne, wife of the Aml of Belgium; Mrs. James J. Mrs. George Sutherland, Mrs. Jacob Leander Loose, Mrs. Thomas F. Walsh, Louise Stanley arid Mrs. L. R. Eakin. The debutante was assisted by Miss Rahel Davies, Miss Adair Childress, Miss Nancy Beale, Miss Nina Randell, Miss Phyllis Hight, Miss" Faith Phillips, Miss Jean Kellogg, Miss Janet Large, ‘who is the niece of Mrs. Herbert Hoover, and Miss Ruth Nebeker. - Secretary Jardine assisted in the en- tertainment in a very general way, danc- ing with the debutantes of the: season and their mpthers.
