PARK TRANSFERS EXPECTED IN YEAR Land in Proposed Shenan- doah Playground Being Val- ued for Condemnation. Virginia authorities expect to be in position to turn over land in the pro- posed Shenandoah National Park to the | Federal Government in about a year, | William E. Carson, chairman of the Vir- ginia State Conservation and Develop- ment Commission, said yesterday. Ef- forts are being made to arrive at a mutually satisfactory figure with the land owners through a series of con- ferences before resorting to condemna- tion proceedings, he explained. Mr. Carson was in conference with Arno B. Cammerer, acting director of the National Park Service, in the ab- sence of Stephen T. Mather, who is ill in_Chicago. Investigators and attorneys have been at work during the last two years, Mr. Carson pointed out, obtaining informa- tion on lands in the proposed park area that will form the nearest of Uncle Sam's great outdoor playgrounds to Washington, so that the commission knows as much about the land as the owners. All this information has been carefully compiled, so that when a land owner comes into. the commission’s office the exact record, description of the land and price, the owner paid can form an accurate basis of discussion. Through condemnation proceedings, the -ommission will receive deeds from the Circuit Court in that part of Vir- ginea, depositing a sum -found to be a th-rough valuation of the land, so that the court can direct the land owners THE EVENING STAR.
