Sevefitfi Street Mason &Hamlin ~ last slice” 'WASHINGTON HOUSEWIVES judge bread carefully for flavor, nourishment, texture, whiteness, freshness. They want it to slice easily—to toast evenly—to keep well. In hundreds of letters they have told us so. And they have also told us that while other breads may have some of these qualities, Rice’s is the only one that invariably gives them all. Read these three letters—and watch for the others in the series appearing in this paper. And order this fine bread yourself. At your own grocer’s—fresh twice daily. “Family prefers it to any other” “Every member of my family prefers it to any other. It is not often that a piece hasa chance to get stale. But when it does it is perfectly delicious toasted. “‘Another delightful way to freshen a cut loaf is to slice it, moisten the crust and put it into its original wax paper cover and pop it into the oven for a few minutes. This brings out the rich flavor of the bread and makes even the stalest loaf fluffy and delicious, while the crust is crispy as fresh baked rolls.”” Mrs. Mary Mozeile Zile, 730 10th St. NW. Real homeémade bread without all the bother and risk of home baking “Rice’s Bread is fine-grained, stays fresh, and is so satisfying. We think it excels all others for sandwiches, and toasting. In fact, it is real homemade bread, without all the bother and risk of home baking, as it is always so uniform, and evenly baked and O, such a saving of labor, especially in large families. We prefer it to all others.” Mrs. B. K. Scharf, 3010-16th St., N. E. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Read, 5 2525 Ontario Road EFFORT TO REFLOAT LINER CELTIC FAILS Vessel Remains on Rocks, While Stokeholds and Bunker Are Filling With Water. Br the Associated Press, LONDON, December 11.—A Lloyd's report says that a further attempt to refloat the liner Celtic, which is on the rocks at the entrance to Cork Harbor, with the early morning tide today was not successiul. Reporting on the unsuccessful at- tempt to refloat the Celtic at high tide yesterday afternoon, Lioyd's said that the water in stoksholds 3 and 4 had in- creased to 24 feet, in No. 3 hold and bunker, to 25 feet, and in No. 2 coffer- dam, to 21 feet. The vessel apparently was held just forward of the navigat- ing bridge. COBH, Ireland, December 11 (#).— seas today pounded the liner as _she remained fast on the Cow-and-Calf Rocks at the eastern en- trance to Cork Harbor. for the safety of the skeleton ecrew which remained aboard brought a lifeboat from Ballycotton to the scene, and it was standing by today. Three tugs were also tossing on the rough seas, keeping a ceaseless vigil. Because of the rough weather, it was believed that the liner was in the greatest peril. It was thought that un- loss the next attempt to haul her off the rocks was successful the Celtic would be in immediate danger of being smashed completely. Hand pumps were being used to keep down the water which poured through a huge hole in the liner's bottom and a big rent in her side. Part of the rent in her hull, was being patched with mattresses, in an effort to stem the rush of the sea.
