Cook, master of ceremonies of the State Department: making the pres- entations. Mrs. Kellogg wore a hand- some gown of Burgundy color velvet, the skirt slightly draped, and a tracery of crystals on the bodice. She wore pearls and diamonds. Mrs. Hughes, who received a constant ovation all evening, wore a gown of white tulle and satin, embroidered in silver sequins. Among the guests to arrive early and remain a short time were the Vice President and Mrs. Dawes. Thé dean of the diplomatic corps, .the Ambas- sador of Great Britain and Lady Isabella Howard, arrived early and re- mained for an hour or more. The Vice President-elect, Senator Charles Curtis, and his sister, Mrs. Edward Everett Gann, held a constant reception at one end of the Hall of the Americas during the evening, Mrs.-Gann wearing a gown of emerald-green georgette with an em- broidered effect in crystals on the bodice and on the skirt. The white marble interior of the building was at its best with a gay setting of poinsettia and other Christ- mas flowers. 5 Following the reception the guests al- most immediately fell into step with music, the dancing continuing until midnight. A number of the Senators and Repre- sentatives recently arrived in Washing- Dr.|%ton and their wives were in the com- pany..and many other personages in- terested in Latin American affairs. Sir Esme and Lady Isabella Howard were constantly asked about the lateest news from England on the condition of the King, and. after the guests were res ‘ceived, Mrs. Kellogg and Lady Isabella sat in the corridor overlooking the patio and held a long conversation. Later the Secretary of State and Mrs. Kellogg and former Secretary of State and Mrs. Hughes were served with supper at a small round table in the patio. Many of the guests went from the Pan-American Union to the Bachelors’ Mr.| Cotillon at the Mayflower. d Mrs. Cord Meyer, jr., and Col. and rs. Osmun_Latrobe and Capt. and Irs. Wilson Brown.
