Bachelors’ Cotillion Carried To Brilliant Success. The Washington Bachelors’ Cotillioa was inaugurated last evening when the fitst of a series of three cotillions was, given in the ballroom of the Mayflower’ Hotel. The large company made a gay scene, the bright hues of the favors adding much color. The several fig- ures of the cotillion were beautifully done and apparently much enjoyed hy the dancers. Mr. Thomas Sim Lee, president of the Bachelors’ cotillion, made the presentations. Mrs., William M. Jardine, wife of the Sccretary of Agriculture, received the guests, as- sisted by Mrs. Lee, Mrs. George H. Calvert, jr.; Mrs. Robert Dulaney Cum- min and Mrs. Willlam Laird Dunlop, who has done much for the success of the cotillion and who stood in_the receiving line for Mr. William Jeffries Chewning, jr. treasurer of the co- tillion. Mrs. Jardine wore a becoming and graceful gown of chiffon, th: straight bodice of white chiffon em- broidered in crystal beads. From a low waistline fell a deep circular flounce of rose color chiffon outlined at the }:p with crystal beads. Mrs. Lee was handpainted on the chiffon and out- lined with fine color threads and she wore a Juliet cap of gold beads. Mrs. Calvert’s gown was of deep rose-color velvet, the bodice fashioned straight to a low waisitine where the skirt was shirred on each hip, and drapery of the velvet hung below the hemline at one side. She wore a spray of silver lenias over one shoulder. Mrs, 'ummin had a gown of midnight blu2 velvet made after a draped model and wore & string of Chinese crystals with ndant earrings to match. Mrs. Dun- gp wore black velvet gracefully draped and pear]l ornaments. Gen. William E. Horton, assistcd by Gen. Squier, directed the figures of the cotillion, which was led by Mr. Wil- liam Bowie Clark, with Miss Marian Jardine, Miss Jardine wore a grace- ful gown of golden yellow taffeta, the bodice cut with diagonal neck line and umi-flmnfi. the full skirt having a deep full flounce of tulle in a deeper shade. Large ornaments of gold and emerald beads were on the bodice back and front and on the skirt.at intervals st the edge of the' taffeta and tulle flounce. There were’'two orchestras so that the dancing was continuous. An elaborate supper was served in the dining room, the guests seated 8t small tables, A table was reserved | from Baltimore and another from Philadelphia. Mrs. Mason Nicholson was hostess at dinner last evening preceding the cotillion and with her guests went later to the box of Wr. Willianm Jeffries- Chewning, jr. In the company were the president of the ' cotillion, Mr. Thomas Sim Lee, and Mrs, Lee; Col. and Mrs. Jefferson Randolph Kean, Mr. and Mrs. Brewer, Miss Marian Jardine, Miss Dorothy Dial, Miss Elizabeth Powell Dunlay. Farnum, has just returned to Washington from Bosion, where he was the speaker at the banquet which was held Saturday night as part of the ded- ication ceremonies in connection with the opening of the Newsboys' Founda- tion. This institution was foundad to furnish the boys recreational and edu- cational opportunities, to enable them to obtain college and technical school scholarships and to open to them oppor- tunities of the widest character. Mrs. Ross Thompson has been called to Evansville, Ind., by the death of her sister Miss Grace de Breuler. Mr. Chatles Delmar entertained a party of 12 at dinner last evening in the presidential dining room of the Mayflower preceding the Washington Bachelors’ cotillion. Mrs. Clarence gary and Mrs. H. H. Mr. and Mrs. William Young Boyd of Panama are in Washington for the duration of the International Civil Aero- nautical Conference, to which Mr. Boyd is a delegate from Panama. They are staying at the Mayflower. Mr. Boyd has made his home in Panama for a number of years and took an active part in the development of the port. of Colon and the Republic of Panama. He whas appointed by the President of Pana- ma in 1924 to make a complete survey and investigation of the free ports of Denmark, Germany and Holland, and a year later was appointed special en- voy to Germany to adjust questions arising from German immigration to Panama. Mr. Boyd organized the Brazilian system of cable censorship, and in 1918 he was invited by the French government to reorganize at Brest, France, the South American cable censorship. Mrs. Davenport White will'be at home informally tomorrow afternoon in her apartment in the Dresden and will re- ceive again Wednesday afternoon, De- cember 19.
