Institute outlined the organization’s plan to erect a laboratory at Panama for the study of tropical diseases com- mon to the United States and Centra’ and South American countries at r luncheon meeting in the Willard Hotel yesterday, attended by diplomats from 20 nations of the Southern Hemisphere Particular attention will be pald tc | the study of malaria, but numerous other tropical ailments will recelvc lengthy consideration. Gives Tract of Land. The Panama government has given the instituce a large tract of land for the laboratory site and, according to plan submitted by Dr. Franklin Martin chairman of the institute's board of di rectors, the Latin American countrier would contribute to 1ts support on : population pro rata basis. ‘These countries, according to the plar proposed, would contribute $37,500 an nually, which, added to the $50,000 given to the institute each year by thi: Government, would pay for the upkeer Dr. Martin said officials of the South American governments concerned hav expressed considerable enthusiasm fo: the proposal.
