20 SOROPTIMIST CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS Mrs. Harriett Hawley Locher Chosen President at An-v nual Meeting. St Mrs. Harriett Hawley Locher, director of the department of public service and education for the Stanley Co., was elect- ed president of the Somptumlst Club of the District of Columbia at its annual meeting_for the election of officers in the La Fayette Hotel yesterday. Mrs. Locher has long been active in various activities in the District. She is past president of the District branch of the League of American Pen Women, past vice president of the National League of American Pen Women and | active in other organizations. She is reputedly the originator of the first public service and educational work ever introduced in the motion picture industry. Other officers elected at the meeting were: Mrs. Daisy Reed, first vice presi- | dent; Miss Mnrgarc'. ‘Withers, second vice president; Miss Emma _Beuchle. corresponding secretary; Miss Ella Wer- ner, reccrding secretary, and Mrs. Ann Kinslow, treasurer. Mrs. Sadie Trapp and Miss Margeret E. Conley were elected directors. | ‘The clection committee was composed of Mrs. Jennie M: Ryan, Miss Sailie Dillard and Mrs. Mary Catherine Lewis. Mrs. Caroline B. Stephen, the retiring president, presided. The officers will be formally installed at a banquet in the Willard Hotel in the near future. Mrs. Mary Catherine Le‘ales is chairman of the banquet com- mittee. 12TH PRECINCT FORCE |} INCREASE IS ASKED| Michigan Park Citizens Request Better Police Protection for School Children. A resolution ‘asking’ that the twelfth recinct be s‘u;plicd with additional po- icemen to afford better protection to school children who must cross dan- gerous highways and to give the com- munity better police protection gener- ally was passed by the Michigan Park Citizens’ Association at its meeting last night in Bunker Hill School. ‘The association also stressed the im- mediate necessity for the construction of a viaduct over the Baltimore & Ohio railroad at Michgan avenue and Eighth street northeast. Members of the com- mittee on public utilities of the associa- tion reported that the development of Michigan avenus is being greatly ve- tarded by the presence of the dangerous crossing.
