Following a crash near; Clinton, Md.,, early today, in which their high-power- ed automobile is alleged. to have crashed into two smaller cars, seven young men attacked and severely beat A. B. Thompson, Prince Georges County constable, and then escaped, after hav- ing removed the' tags'from all of the automobiles involved. ““Thompson was summoned after the egrived he. two. CATS appar~ ently having left. When he attempted to take the men into custody for question- ing, he said, they all jumped on him, several striking him ia the face and one kicking him in the mouth. He is oonfined to his home, but his condition s not thought to' be serious. According to County Policeman Frank P. Prince, the mer, after beat- i:x ‘Thompson, drove their partially dis- led car about a quarter of a mile toward the city and then abandoned 1t in some woods, where it was found by police and taken to Forestville with the other cars. A Some time after the accident a trouble car from a local garage went to the Lflhce where the high-powered car had left. It was piloted by another large car, police say. When they were refused the wrecked machine, the men turned back toward Washington. ‘The tag numbers on the pilot ma- chine revealed, the police claim, that it belongs to Harry Isaac Friedman, 32 years old, of the 600 biock Pennsylvania avenue. He was taken into custody by Headquarters Detectives H. E. Brodie and Frank A. Varney and Policeman Prince. When taken before Thompson, however, it was discovered that he was not among the men who had attacked the constable. Due fo the fact that there have been no claimants for either of the wrecked amachines, the police have been unable 1o discover whether any of the occu- pants were injured and what became of them after the crash, None could be found in any of the local hospitals. ‘Thompson is a former local police- man, and is now drawing compensation for a bullet wound received during the race riots here several years ago. FELLOWSHIP FORUM STOCK EXPLAINED By the Associated Press. ROANOKE, Va., November 2.—Rob- ert H. Angell, Virginia Republican chairman, last night made public a Jetter which he said he sent yesterday to John J. Raskob, chairman of the Democratic national committee, quot- ing from an editorial in a Roanoke mewspaper to explain his ownership of stock in the Fellowship Forum. Mr. Angell said the letter was. written be- ‘cause of public reference made by Gov. Smith and Mr. Raskob to disclosures several weeks ago that Mr. Angell and other Roanoke citizens six years ago purchased stock in the Fellowship Forum with the understanding, Mr. Angell said, that the publication would be devoted to the interests of Masonry. In his letter, as an explanation of dis interest in the Fellowship Forum, Mr, Angell quoted the following from an editorial in the Roanoke World News: “Gov. Smith, in his Baltimore ad- dress, and Chairman Raskob, in a re- eent statement, alluded to the owner- ship by R. H Angell, Republican chair- man for Virginia, of stock in the Fel- Yowship Forum, 1If they were more closely informed as to Virginia affairs, they would know that in this matter they are fighting straws. The way in which Mr. Angell and a number of other Roanoke citizens, some of the Democrats and office_holders, acquired a few shares of stock some years ago in what was represented then as be- fng a general fraternal weekly that would be of interest to Scottish Rite Masons has been fully explained. Now that the Fellowship Forum has fallen from the high purpose of its founders and a medium for the transmission of anti-Catholic propaganda of the most scurilous sort, decent citizens are em-; harrassed by having had even the slighte est share in its founding.” 3 ’ THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D.
