By the Associated Press. NEW YORK. October 26.—The re- cent war between the On Leong and Hip | Sing Tongs, in which several Chinese | were killed and several wounded, has | and a “peace” has been signed. Announcement of the action was made | by Dr. S. S. Young, Chinese consul gen- | eral at New York, who said the leaders of the tongs met at his office and sign a document urging their fellow country- men not to be swayed by alarming ru- mors and promising that the “peaceful | pursuit of every one’s business will be continued as before.” Dr. Young admitted that the “mis- understanding” might have become ag- gravated had the rival leaders not been called together to_ discuss the difficulty. Police officials here and in Chicago, | where some of the killings took place, credited the recent outbreak to efforts of Hip Sing members to encroach on the business territory of the On Leongs. The late “war” broke out simultane- ously in four cities on the night of Octo- ber 14. Two Chinese were killed in Washington and one each in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. Other kill- ings, not directly connected with tong members, followed during the next fow days. Several arrests were made, but aone of the cases have come to trial, SHIPPING NEWS Arrivals at and_Sailings From New York. ARRIVED YESTERDAY.
