Then add half a cupful of milk and one beaten egg. Heat half a cupful of vinegar in a saucepan and add slowly the other in- gredients. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Cook one pound of small butter beans or one quart of fresh ones, two pounds of white potatoes and one pound of onions in enough water to keep them from burn- ing for one hour or until they are tender. Add these well cooked vege- tables to the chicken and broth. Add one quart can of corn or half a dozen ears of corn, one quart can of tomatoes or half a dozen fresh tomatoes, half a pound of butter, salt and pepper to taste, and a little more hot water if needed. Cook slowly for one hour or longer, or until thick. This will serve 20 persons, and is good made outdoors Chocolate Dessert. ‘Tear into small pieces about the size of half-inch cubes two cupfuls of bread from the inside of the Iloaf, shaken down lightly. Turn into a bread pan or a deep dish and sprinkle two squares of grated chocolate over the mound of crumbs thus made. Cover with half a cupful of sugar. Place ip a slow oven and leave until the chocolate is melted. With a fork mix the chocolate crumbs and sugar together until all the crumbs are well coated. Put into individual dishes for serving, and let stand until cold. This amount makes enough for about five persons. Whip some cream, sweeten slightly, and flavor with vanilla. Serve as much as desired.
