SOCIETY President and Mrs. Coolidge Hosts to Governor General of Canada and Viscountess HE President and Mrs. .Cool- idge were hosts at a dinner last evening at the White House in honor of their ex- cellencles, the Governor Gen- eral of Canada and Viscountess Wil- lingdon. As much form and ceremony attended the event as is compatible ‘with an American republic, the Marine Band Orchestra playing. all of the White House aides in attendance and flowers artistically arranged through- out the state suite of rooms. The state dining table was very effective, with pink roses, stevia and maiden- hair fern forming the decoration. The company invited by the Presi- dent and Mrs. Coolidge in honor of their excellencies were the Vice Presi- dent and Mrs. Dawes, the Ambassador of Great Britain and Lady Tsabella Howard, the Secretary of State and Mrs. Kellogg. the Minister of Canada fassey, the Secretary of the . The Minister and Mrs. Massey will entertain at dinner this evening in honor of the governor general and Viscountess Willingdon. Mrs. Coolidge Attends Morning Musical Today. Mrs. Coolidge was among those at the first of Mrs. Townsend’s morning musicals of this season this morning, when the program was given by Miss Mary Lewis, soprano, and Mr. Emilio de Gogorza, baritone, in the ballroom of the Hotel Mayflower. Mrs. Coelidge was the honor guest at luncheon after the concert of Mrs. ‘William M. Jardine, wife of the Sec- retary of Agriculture, who entertained in her apartment at the Mayflower. Her other guests were Mrs. Charles G. Dawes, Mrs. Frank B. Kellogg, Mrs. Dwight F. Davis, Mrs. Harry S. New, Mrs. Curtis D. Wilbur, Mrs. Her- bert Hoover, Mrs. James J. Davis and Mrs. Frank W. Stearns. This afternoon Mrs. Coolidge will receive a small group by appointment at the tea hour. The Vice President and Mrs. Charles G. Dawes will be the guests of honor at dinner Monday evening, December 19, of Mrs Stephen B. Elkins. Mrs. Elkins was hostess to a com- pany of 24 at luncheon today. ‘The Ambassador of Japan and Mme. Matsudaira entertained at dinner last evening in honor of Mrs. Whitelaw Reid, widow of the former United, States Ambassador to the Court of St. James. There were 18 guests, in- cluding Senator and Mrs. Frederick H. Gillett. Mme. Matsudaira was the guest of Mrs. William Fitch Kelley in her box at Mrs. Townsend's musical and at luncheon following, Mrs, Kelley also had as her guests Mrs. Vicotr Kauff- mann, Mrs. Mary Stewart, Mrs. Frank Freyer and Mrs. J. Harry Covington. Mme, Matsudaira will not be at home Friday afternoon, but will receive Fri- day, December 16. Senator and Mrs. Peter Norbeck of South Dakota, accompanied by their daughter, Miss Selma Norbeck, have returned to Washington and have taken an apartment at the River- side, in the Potomac Park section of the city, for the season. Senator Smith of Illinols entertained informally at dinner last night at the ‘Willard, where he and Mrs. Smith are making their home for the Winter. Representative and Mrs. James T. Begg, who spent Thanksgiving in Florida, are in New York at the Wal- dorf-Astoria, on thelr way back to Washington.
