Murtaugh, 84 years old, retired building contractor of this city, died at his residence, 668 Maryland avenue northeast, early today after a long illness. Mr. Murtaugh was in the contract- ing business here for 39 years, prior to his retirement about three years ago, during which time he had con- tracts for the brick work on many of the embassies, telephone exchanges and numerous houses in the best resi- dential sections. He was a native of Ireland and came to this country 53 years ago. He was a member of the Washington Council of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Murtaugh is survived by three sons, James F., Thomas J. and L. E. Murtaugh; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Smith, Mrs. Katherine Pike and Miss Agnes Murtaugh; 24 5:- dchildren and 21 great-grandchil- ren. Funera]l arrangements have not been completed.
