Crawford, colored, member of No. 4 precinct command, was taken suddenly i1l from a wound he received the night of October 17, 1923, when his partner, Pohiceman John Purcell, also colored, was shot to death. Crawford was shot in the abdomen. He was so dangerously wounded that it was believed he could not recover.
