FOX—"Seventh Heaven.” For the week beginning Sund William Fox will present at the Fo: Pheater, “Seventh Heaven,” his screen version of the Broadway play by Aus-| fin Strong, which is lestined to write potion picture history. “Frank Borzage, who directed “Sev- enth Heaven,” for Fox, spent three months in Parls studying types and &tmosphere for this production, which g - has been acclaimed by critics as his masterpiece. The action of the picture is laid in| a picturesque corner of Paris Mont- marte district, and it seems that so simple a story as Heaven” should so grip the i tion and heart of the worldi—until one remembers it is an epic of flaming jove and blazing courage. The “Roxy” stage presentation, de- vised and personally rehearsed by Roxy to augment “Seventh Heaven,” is said to rvepresent his best efforts. There is an animated tableau, “There Is No Death,” reminiscent of the late war, and James Melton and Marion Keeler sing an_aria “Diana,” posed as Erno Rapee, as the theme song to the picture. The Fox Theater Concert Orchestra of 50 men, under the supervision of Meyer Davis and conducted by Adol- phe Kornspan, will interpret the musical score, and there will be' a ballet corps direct from the Roxy Theater in New York, with a_chorus of 40 voices, and superlative lighting and scenic effects. METROPOLITAN—"“The Rough Riders.” Crandall’s Metropolitan Theater on Saturday of this week will present for the first time in Washington Par- amount's super-production, “The Rough Riders,” 10 full reels in length and so complete an entertainment and so engrossing in its action as to pre- clude the presentation of the shorter films. The new bill, therefore, will embrace only “The Meltopolitan World Survey” and one of Paul Ter- ry's Aesop Fable cartoon comedies. In place of the customary concert overture, the Metropolitan Symphony, under Daniel Breeskin, will be heard in a brief prelude to the major fea- ture only. “The Rough Riders” purports to depict with accuracy the major events in one of the most colorful periods of modern American history as a back- ground for a love story of charm and dramatic power. The love motif is carried throughout the picture by Mary Astor, as Dolly; Charles Farreil as Van, the Eastern young man of wealth who_enlists in “The Rough Riders,” and Charles Emmett Mack, Dolly’s chilGhood _sweetheart, who, under fire, proves first to be a coward and then, under stress of peculiar eir- cumstances, the outstanding hero of the day. The comedy vein is intrust- ed to Noah Beery as “Hell's Bells,” Western sheriff, and “Happy Jo impersonated by George Bancroft. Perhaps overshadowing these dra- matic elements are the events which launch on its way the career of Theo- dore Roosevelt. “The engagement will be limited to a single week, ending next Friday night, and the customary scale of prices will prevail on Saturday as well as on Sunday. PALACE—“Running Wild.” W. C. Fields' latest Paramount screen farce, “Running Wild,” will be shown at Loew's Palace Theater next week, beginning Saturday of this week, with the DeMarcos, dancers, and Badger and Muesleer, harmony sing- ers, as the stage features. The DeMarcos are famous dancers, who were featured with George White's “Scandals” and “The Cocoa- nuts.” Thay have just returned from a tour of European theaters, “Running Wild,” which also fea- tures Mary Brian, should be a good comedy, for in it Elmer Finch, the original timid soul and family door mat, is suadenly transformed into a feariess warrior by means of a stage magician's nvpnotic spell. He goes out into the world and makes every- thing come his way. whether it wants to or not. Then Elmer is snapped out of the trance and he realizes what he has done. RIALTO—“A Gentleman of Paris. Suddenly he sees his prospec- tive bride in a new light, and finding himself rapturously in love starts to wind up his “affairs” in anticipation of the impending marriage. All of said “affairs” but Henriette are dis- posed of painlessly, but when he goes to call on her to good-by he un- expectedly meets there his own effi-| cient valet, who announces himself as_Henriette’s hushand.
