LEAVENWORTH SEES FAMOUS “THIRD” AGAIN Correspondence of the Associated Press. FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kans.— e “founders” of Fort Leavenworth hava completed a month’s visit to the Army post after a lapse of 100 years. In the Spring of 1827 Gen. Henry Leavenworth led the 3rd Infantry here from Camp Miller, Mo., and founded the post. The 3rd Infantry did not return until last month, when detachments from the famous regiment came from Fort Snelling, Minn., for duty as en- listed personnel at a citizens’ training camp. The 3rd is one of the oldest reg- iments in the service, its history dat- ing back to the original Pennsylvania Infantry, organized by Congress in 1774. It earned the sobriquet, “The Old Guard of the Army” with Gen. Scott at Mexico City. Deaths Reported.
