G. Bullard, chairman of the The Radio Cavalcade, WRC, W and other stations, 9 to 10 o'clock. Despite recent statements from three | of the Radio Commissioners that the broadcasting situation was in pretty good shape, that few complaints from the broadcasters themselves were be- ing received, and that they were in general pleased with present reception conditions, the commissioners have issued during the past week 27 changes of frequency and power. Most of the power changes were increases, indicating that in certain instances higher power will be authorized for | tried and proven stations without in- creasing interference, and some of the shifts in frequencies were executed with the mutual consent of the station | owners. | The commissioners assert that they will operate on their present alioca- tion policy, changing few assignments. Commenting on the present situation, Commisstoner O. H. Caldwell says that he is pleased with the situation thinks that the chan made ha been in the right direction. No r cal moves are anticipated, he states, and few shifts will be made in the future. This commissioner says what is now needed is to sell more scts ®0 more can listen in to active sta- tions. Well that transmission and reception condi tions were better in his district, includ- | ing the Middle States and upper Mis- sissippi Valley. On_the whole, this spokesman asserts that conditions in general are favorable and that reports from dealers and manufacturers throughout the country backed up this opinion. They also indorse the com- mission’s system of frequency alloca- tion. He reiterated his statement that stations finding themselves in difi- culties through interference from other stations have but to ask relief of the commission and a hearing will be held if the case proves a worthy one. Mr. Bellows advocates a continued | reduction of active stations, throw-| ing out those which break the laws and regulations or can't maintain their frequency assignments. On the other hard, he approves the gianting of increased power, if it is needed and the station engineers demon-| strate that they can handle it, to]| stations whose programs warrant this extension in public interest. Sykes Still Investigating. Admiral Bullard has affirmed the belief of the other commissioners in that his district stations seem to be in fine shape with regard to keep- ing the laws of the other, controlling their frequencies and offering good programs No_definite reports have been re- ceived from Judge Sykes, who is still | investigating in the South.
