The effort of the committee is to make its findings so unassailable that they will acquire at least a quasi-offi- clal standing in the courts. Conflicts Must Be Cleared. “It is difficult for a layman to re- alize the importance of this work of clarification,” said Mr. Lewis. “In the matter of contracts alone it is * imperative that the conflicts be clear- ed up as to the laws governing dis- charge of obligations in different States. Our increasing intercourse with other nations is continually rais- ing pew problems concerning the working of our -laws -with' those of o!hfl countries. e are cases where precedents arly in conflict with some un- qu@a!mned principle of the law. What was to be done about this? We have attempted to make the institute rep- resentative of the leadership of the American bar and the American bench. Tt seemed to us that the only thing to do was to examine both law and precedent, putting in just as much time and work as necessary and then put our findings in the hands of every attorney and judge in the country. That is what we are try- ing to do. (Copyright. 1927.) SILENT GN U. S. STAND. Argentina Declines to Explain At- titude to Nation's Senate.
