32 BATTLEFIELD PARK | IS NOW ASSURED, President Signs Bill Providing ; Markers at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania. President Coolidgs has signed a bill which constitutes the first step toward making the long-contemplated Fredericksburg and ° Spotsylvania sattlefield Park a reality. The bill authorizes the park and carries an initial appropriation of $500,000, which will prove sufficient suitably to desig nate by markers points of historic interest in the territory which will later, through subsequent appropria *tions, become what is hoped to be a national park comparable to that at Gettysburg. Points connected with the battles of Fredericksburg, 3 vania Courthouse, the Wilderness, Salem Church and Chancellorsville will be included in the park stituted in IFebruary, - of the original com mittee sponsoring the presentation of the bill is now dead. Members of the committee represented both the North and South. Preliminary work will begin shortly, it was indicated by Representative Otis Bland of Virginia, one of the «ponsors of the bill which was finally passed, and it is probably that the initial $50,000 appropriation will be used to obtain suitable markers to designate spots of historic interest now marked, in some instances, only by shrubbery. The entire project will represent a cost to the government of about $500,000, and the various States as well as different patriotic groups will be invited to contribute monuments and other memorials Salad Exhibition Planned.
