By the Assaciated Press. CHICAGO, February 17.—Pre-natal diagnoses have been made more exact by the use of the X-ray, two Chicago doctors have announced, after work ing since 1921 on more than 800 pa- tients without danger to a single one. Use of the X-ray in pre-natal cases heretofore has been limited, the doc- tors said, because of the danger of injury to mother or child, and in the tests that have been conducted thin strips of supersensitive film wers used in order to require as little of the ray as possible. According to Dr. Irving Stein and >r. Robert A. Arens, who have been orking on the X-ray at Michael eese Hospital, the mystery of the un- | born child, whether it wiil be physi \( ally normal, whether there will be twins and whether a Caesarlan opera- tion will be necessary, has all been swept away by the obstetrical X-ray. Determination of sex before birth, however, has not been accomplished. As the result, the doctors said, the chances of mishap to a mother have been lessened by 80 per cent. British Clergyman Holds “Topper” Symbolizes “Ungodly Victorian.” BARNET, England, February 17 (#).—Ctanon Donaldson of Westminster does not think much of the silk hat. In a speech here he described is as “a vicious, vile, ugly symbol of the un- godly Victorian.” “It is hard, unylelding, uncomforta- ble and pretentious.” he added, “with an outside gloss and an inside smell. It is responsible for much of the bald- ness of the late generation which it typifies.” Inquire About Our Deferred Payment Plan Automobile Parking Service W. B. CHICAGO, February 17.—For a large majority of Christians “religion is the cheapest thing” in the twen- tieth century, declared Bishop Charles E. Woodcock of Kentucky, a speaker today at bishops' crusade meetings of the Episcopal Church. “It costs more to own and keep up an automoblle in this modern age than it does to belong to the church,” said Evtablished 1861 F Street and Eleventh ity and authenticity. Bishop Woodcock. “It costs more to] belong to clubs and lodges than it costs to have religion. Recreation for the average man of today is many times more expensive than is his Chris- | tlanity. On the whole, religion is the cheapest thing most beings of the twentieth century have. “The work of the Christian Church today is carried on by not more than 50 per cent of those who claim to be Christlans. Fifty per cent of the Christians of today get their refigion from thelr nefghbors. This system of second-hand religion can't amount to much for most persons.” 1 Self-satisfled Christians came in for severe arraignment from the bishop.
