December 8.—For the second consecutive year, the Union ! fi em has been awarded the |E H. ¥ nan gold 1 for:the most conspicuous accident prevention work in America during the last year, it was anncunced yesterday by Arthur Williams, president of the American Museum of Safety. The award is made annualiy on the basis of records submitted to the Interstate Commerce Commission, and the winning system's report for 1925 shows that not a single passenger was killed on the system in 1925, though the railroad operated more than 53,000,000 locomotive miles and more than a billion passenger miles. Grace & Co., steamship operators, de- nied last night that the freighter West Kasson was afire at sea, as reported during the day. It was explained that chemical action in the silver and lead concentrates that form the vessel's cdrgo caused fumes to arise which erroneously gave the impression that there was a fire aboard the ship.
