DENVER, Colo, November 4.— Three close gubernatorial contests re- mained today from Tuesday's ballot- | ing in the Rocky Mountain territory. Gov. George W. P. Hunt, Democrat, seeking to make himself “George the Sixth” of Arizona, had a scant lead of 22 voles at midnight over his Repub- lican opponent, E. S. Clark, unofficial returns showed. The count from 404 precincts complete and 12 incomplete out of 484 was: Hunt, 39,412; Clark, 39,390. New Mexico's latest returns show R. C. Dillon, Republican, leading Gov. A. T. Hannett, Democrat, by a ma- jority of 1,418 votes, on returns from 299 of 747 precincts. Victory Seems Certain. Estimates based cn those returns were that the whole Republican ticket, with the exception of the con sional candidate, Juan Sedillo, the very best RACES UNDECIDED & ceded. The Natlon’s first woman governor, Nellie Taylor Ross of Wyoming, early apparently had joined her sis- ter executive, Miriam A. Ferguson of Texas, in defeat, although Democ headquarters refused to concede vic- tory to Mrs. Ross' Republican oppo- nent, Frank Emerson, until the last returns were reported. The latest fig- ures gave Mrs. Ross 33,105 to 34 31'6 for Emerson from 618 of the State's 685 precincts. R!‘glre!enlauve Scott M. Leavitt, was maintaining a substantial lead over Harry Mitchell, Democrat, in the second Montana district on returns from approximately two-thisds of the precincts, Waterman Leads in Colorado. Defeat of all Democratic senatorial, congressional and State candidates save W. H. Adams for governor and Representative Edward T. Taylor; overwhelming rout of the proposal to repeal the State's prohibition amend- ment and passage of an amendment authorizing the Legislature toincrease the salaries of supreme and district court justices, the governor and his secretary, were the outstanding fea- tures of the election in Colorado. With only 105 remaining precincts to report on the.United States sena- torial race, Charles W. Waterman, Republican, was leading former Gov. William E. Sweet, Democrat, by near- 1y 11,000 votes.
