The volume of construction per- formed during September, as indi- cated by shipments of construction materials, was slightly greater than Better Homes Exposition to|that recorded for August, reaching Show Pictures of Houses in Star Program. Among exhibits that will be dis- played at the Better Homes Exposi- tion, which opens Monday evening at the Washington Auditorium, will be a booth showing pictures of The Star's model homes, which were ected this Summer. Nine projects, ranging from row houses and suburban houses to semi- detached and detached houses, were built as a part of this undertaking sponsored by The Star. The projects were: A colonial stucco home at Thir- teenth street and Alaska avenue, buflt by L. E. Breuninger & Sons and de- signed by Victor Mindeleff. A brick Georgian detached house at Wesley Heights, built by W. C. & A. N. Miller and designed by Delos H. Smith. A stone detached colonial house at Thirty-fifth street and Massachusetts avenue, built by Hedges & Middleton and designed by Robert Beresford. A detached frame Virginia-type louse at Lee Heights, Va., built by Ruby Lee Minar and designed by Ward Brown. A Maryland suburban house at Wynnewood Park, Md., buflt by the Stambaugh Construction Co. and de- signed by Percy Adams. A group of row houses at Fifth and Decatur streets, built by the Cafritz Construction Co. and designed by Louis Justement. A group of row houses at West Virginia avenue near Queen street northeast, built by C. H. Small and designed by J. Wilmer Smith. A community group of Italian de- «ign at Fifth and Longfellow streets, built by Walter Dunigan and de- signed by Gilbert Rodier. A semi-detached group at Thir- teenth and Upshur streets northeast, bullt by Walter Vaughn and de- signed by W. H. I. Fleming. The Better Homes and Building Exposition, which will be opened un- der the auspices of the Washington Real Estate Board on Monday and continued until Saturday, will be one of the largest affairs of its kind ever held in the National Capital. Approximately 42,000 square feet of exhibit space has been taken by the exhibitors who are bastily com- pleting their various wares prior to STAR, WASHINGTON, the opening on Monday evening at 8 o'clock. Every effort has been made to keep the show on a high plane and exhibitors who are accus- tomed to placing their various com- modities in shows qf this description are unanimous in statirig that this exhibit will be one of the best that they have participated in. All the booths have been decorated in a uni- form fashion with elaborate electrical decgrations. Both the upstairs and downstairs of the building will be used. All the seats from the main auditorium have been taken out-and scores of booths of various exhibits have been placed on the floor in their stead. One of the chief features of the exposition will be the absence, of any attempt at “peddling.” No contests or affailrs of this nature have been permitted and the show will be ex- clusively for the better homes and building idea.
