GARMENT CZAR, SHOT 5 TIMES, STILL LIVES Non-Union - Distributor Wounded as Phase of Long New York Strike. By the Associated Press. PASSAIC, N. J.,, September 25.— This city, often riven to disturbances laid to the textile strike, today was the scene of violence brought on by the seven-month garment strike in progress in New York, when Louis Cooper, garment czar and object of frequent threats, was shot five times in front of his home. At General Hos- pital tonight his condition was re- ported as fair, although a bullet pun tured a lung and passed under his heart. Two men waiting in an automobile at the curb left their machine this morning as Cooper drove his car from the driveway. Jumping on the run- ning board of Cooper’s car, both blazed away at him. The men escaped in their automobile. Cooper and Daniel Schwartz of Clit- ton control a trucking business dis- tributing garment work among non- union shops and_delivering the fin- ished product to New York. The gar- ment strike is not connected with the textile war in this district. Mrs. Viola V. l’nddy Auks Divorce.
