[CLERKS LOSE, TREASURY WINS, UNDER NEW PAY TABULATING The story of how a large number of Government employes stand to lose 4 to 8 cents a year from their speci- fied salaries by the adoption of a new salary table in the general accounting office” for the guidance of disbursing officers in making up pay rolls came to light today. The‘new system will, at the same time, add a substantial | sum to the Treasury. Prior to the adoption of this new table on July 1, if an employe’'s an- nual salary could not be divided into even amounts for each pay day the odd pennies were given him on cer- tain pay days during the year, so that at the end of 12 months he had weceived the actual amount due. Old Rule Abandoned. With the passage of the amended retirement law it became necéssary to prepare a new salary table to show the Increased deductions for the re- tirement fund and, according to those who have studied the new table, it does not retain the old rule of giving the employes the odd pennies on certain pay days in cases where the salary cannot be worked out to an even amount for each month. For example, the new table shows that an employe listed for $1,400 an- nually would be paid at the rate of $116.66 a month (not allowing for the deduction for the retirement fund). 1f $116.66 is multiplied by 12 months | it gives $1,399.92 for the vear, or n $1.400. | atmed at simpli ving administration work by giving employes an even number of dollars on the fifteenth of the month and the balance of their monthly wage at the end of the month, but the amount re- celved on the fifteenth and the amount they receive on the thirtieth is uniform throughout the year. Loss of 4 or 8 Cents. According’ to persons who have studled the new tables, this uni- formity in pay rolls throughout the year means the dropping of 4 Cake 2-quart 14-quart — I‘, 4-quart P DULIN 121§~127 Hours: 8:45 the skin—almost overnight! skin with amazing quickness. and blackheads have given way such as Peoples Drug Stores, box contains facts about Piles which everybody should know. i 6-quart Covered Convex Kettle Omelet Pans «MARTING: Employes Whose Salaries Do Not Divide Evenly, It Is Claimed, Stand to Forfeit Four to Eight Cents a Year by Accounting System. cents from some annual salaries and 8 cents fro mcertain other salary grades, Although admitting that employes in certain salary grades will lose 4 or 8 pennies in the course of a year under the new method, officials of the General Accounting Office say it will reduce the cost of administra- tion. They point out that under the old table employes whose salaries did not divide evenly had to be paid dif- ferent amounts in certain months in order te make up the odd pennies. Officials said that there are approx- imately 80 salary groups, and that the new method of computing month]y allotment would affect about {a dozen grades. Total a Considerable Sum. How much the dropping of the odd pennies would aggregate for the en- tire Government service in the course of a r is not known, but it prob- ably will run into a substantial sum.
