Of the eight items listed in the week's bulletin of changes in the status of the United States broadcast ing stations, only two are expected to be followed by complaints—the mov ing of station WRNY, New York from 258 meters to 374.5 meters, and WBNY, New York, from 209.7 to 322.4 meters. Although the actual shifts were made more than a week ago, the officials of the stations have announced their intentions of con tinuing on these waves only in the past three day Persistent dissatisfaction over these two jumps in frequencies has been re ported from New York City listeners who claim thut as 4 resuit an ether bedlam exists in the middle wave bands. WRC Interference Trend. A third item in the list that may or may not cause complications is the issuance of a license to the Union Course Laboratories at Woodhaven, N. Y., to operate on 469.9 meters The wave chosen is dangerously near that of WRC in Washington, but it is understood that the power to be used at the Woodhaven statfon will not be great enough to cause seriou interference. In definitely announcing its inten tion to remain on the 430.1 meter wave the Boston broadcaster, WNAC, is following up the requests of its listeners. When WNAC. first. jumped from its assigned wave of 280.2 meters, listeners were asked to report any interference caused by the change and to say whether they de sired WNAC to continue on the higher wave. According to the majority of reports, the change appeared to be \desirable to the listeners. Old Wave Is Taken. Simuitaneous with this change, tho qhemrd Stores also announced upemuon of its second station W the wave deserted by YV AB formerly used the 250-met { wave. The other items in the broadeasting list include the change of the wave of station WEW, St. Louis, from 247.8 meters Lo 360 meters; the change in ownership of WGHB, Clearwater Fla., operating on 265.5 meters, from the George H. Lowles Development to the Fort Harrison Hotel, and the fssuance of « license to- station operated by A. C. Dailey at attle, Wash., which authorized use the 205.7 meter wave. In addition to changing i length, station WBNY, New York, has r;l}x‘ar}ged{handc from those of Miss irley Catz to the B. LONDON, July 31.—Wi Churchill, now a member of th:n:l(:”j servative party, still is a liberal as far as hot-weather clothing s concerned. In the House of Commons he has in- augurated the American custom of doing away with waistcoats during the hot season. Ordinarily the British lower house is one of the coolest places in London but this year, with the thermometer hovering in the 80s, which means as much to the Londoner as the hundreds do to an American, the members are leaving nothing undone in the matter of personal comfort. Among the waistcoatless ones are Sir Arthur Shirley Benn, Capt. Dixey and Capt. Ernest Evans. Col. Applin has been appearing lately in a soft to | yellow alpaca suit, while Mr. Churchill is quite ready to forego wearing his vest. He has so far refused to part with his stiff white shirt. FRENCH STATE OFFICIALS REMAIN LONG IN OFFICE Frequent Changes in Cabinet Do Not Disturb Undersecretaries. One There 30 Years. By the Associated Press. PARIS, July 31.—Ministers in France may change frequently, but state officials remain in office fairly steadily. Pierre Laval had this truth brought home to him after his nomi- nation in Briand’'s tenth and now ex- tinct cabinet, when a head secretary of the department of justice came to say ‘bood-by on hsi retirement from service. “Have you been here long?"! asked M. Laval. ‘Thirty years,” replied the official. “‘And how many. ministers of justice have you known"" commented the minister, and ‘I am sure that I shall never see 30 chief secretaries of the depart- ment."” MOVING, PACKING & STORAGE.
