REAL ESTATE. Final Touch for Decorative Effect BY LYDIA LE BARON WALKER. THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, SATURDAY, JULY 31, 1926. to add beauty to the pleces, and none of these things can show to advan- tage unless the front of the furniture 1s" kept with an even surface. Drawers should not be left out the fraction of an inch, nor be pushed in too far. One is as disastrous as the other to the best appearance of the furniture. Small Details. Perhaps it may be that the window shade is not even, or that it is up too high. Or there may be a chair that has been pushed a liftle from its pleasing position. It may be that a paper or magazine was left where it did not belong, or a duster may be discovered which you tnought you surely had taken away. Any of these things a “last look” will reveal, and it takes but an instant to set them right and have all as it should be. Lemon Butter Sandwich. A ROOM IS APT TO LACK SOME LITTLE FINISHING TOUCH OF GOOD ORDER UNLESS A “LAST LOOK” 1S GIVEN IT AND DETAILS ARE ATTENDED TO. LA “last look,” which we associate Wwith games of childhood or with stamping of impressions of beauty on our memories in later years, should be included in the list of aids to home-making also. Those of you Wwho have tried it are sure to agree with me. For instance, when you are straightening out a room and believe it is in perfect condition, and are ready to leave it as finished, stop on the threshold of the doorway as vou are going out of the room and give one “last look.” Few who have tried this method fail to find some little thing that requires extra attention. Without its being done the room does not have just the aspect it should. Shut Closet Doors. . Perhaps it is the closet door that is ajar, affording just a wee glimpse of the contents. They may be in excel- lent order, but a closet door is intend- ed to be shut, and it doesn't look right to have it open. It is for pro- igction as well as for appearance that a, closet door is needed, and when it f:s not fulfill its function, a dis- cordant note in the room is sounded. Dust can seep through the crack and Make a lemon butter as follows, cooling thoroughly: Heat one cup- ful of water in the top of a double bofler. Strain the juice of one lemon into this’ Beat together until light and creamy one-half cupful of sugar and two eggs. , When these are ready dissolve one teaspoonful of gelatin in one tablespoonful of cold water, stirring immediately into the hot water, Stir until entirely dissolved. Add the egg mixture and continue stirring gently until the heat has cooked, but not boiled, the egg. Spread when very cold between thin ‘slices of nut bread. -—— To toil for a hard master is bitter, but to have no master to toil for is even more bitter. BEAUTY CHATS For August Days. Freckles, sunburn, peeling skin and excessive perspiration are the four troubles that make up the bulk of my correspondence these days. Lumping the first three, any treatment which promotes the activity of the skin, tends to reduce sunburn—hence do away with a peeling skin—and to bleach freckles. My advice is to use plenty of vanishing cream before go- ing out, and to cover this with a thick coat of powder, using this on face neck and hands, too. If you go in bathing, the water at once washes this off; in that case, a regular oily cream is best, and dark parasols to lounge undér when you are on the beach. Afterward the old-fashioned mix- ture of one-third glycerine, one-third | rose water and one-third either lemon or cucumber juice is as good as any to use on the skin. Follow at bedtime by a thorough rubbing with bleaching, oily cold cream. Protect the h#nds with cool silk or cotton suede gloves when you can, for sunburned hands and wrists are impossibly ugly. If you sunburn, do it becomingly—face and neck and chest, and hands and arms too; then, at least, you won't look streaky in an, evening dress. k-‘m' excessive perspiration keep the armpits shaved, using a safety razor, and wear loose, cool clothes. Make up this, which is a little known, but valuable formula: Three ounces of epsom salts, one-half pint of wheat Your Wife Spends Most— the garments lose their crisp and i fresh daintiness. Any woman who is a good home-maker instinctively shuts a closet door. And so, if an- other coming into the room spies the door ajar, she will want to shut it, even though she could not do so courteously. Let the “last look” dis- cover such things as the open closet door. Bureau Drawers. Or perhaps it i{s the bureau drawers that are sticking out, not much, but just a little, enough, however, to give an untidy appearance to the furni- ture. jobs are particular to fit drawers so that they will close to make an even front to bureaus, dressers, and ia fact to every piece of furni which there are drawers. If the furniture is fine, the grain of the wood has| been considered. It may be that burling is used effectively, herring- bone strips may be placed with pre- cision, inlaid work may be introduced A COZY HOME Newly Decorated - Floors Refinished Built-in Refrigerator Made Like New, Open Sunday and Evenings 749 Newton Place N.W. Use this as freely and as often as you like, and dust the arms and the whole body after the bath with talcum powder. You mustn't stop all perspiration. This formula neutralizes odors, and Stops exces- sive, which is unhealthy, perspiration. B. A~—Frequent bathing will not coargen the pores — the tendency would be the very opposite, if there is any effect at all. The opening for three good men to sell high- class property. to get rid of coarse facial pores is to take a full daily bath the year round, as keeping all the pores of the skin freed will give less work for those on your face, and they con- tract gradually because of this. M. A. P.—I cannot understand why any of these fine soaps you mention irritate your skin, unless you do not rinse enough afterward. The soap you mention that does not affect you is really no better than the others; however, you had better use that make as long as it agrees with you. A fine grade of any olive soap or the best castile is a good choice for sensitive skins. . Only an auctioneer should admire all schools of art.
