40 MARINE BAND DUO - ON'WRG TONIGHT Special Horn and Flute Num- ber in Concert—Other Mu- sical Features. A late organ recital by George F. Ross was substituted by WRC today for its previously scheduled dance program by Meyer Davis' Swanee Syncopators, which had been adver- tised to return to the air tonight after a week's absence. Mr. Ross will give his recital from 10 to 11 o’clock. Marine Band to Play, The United States Marine Band, under the direction ,of Taylor Bran- eon, second leader, Will again provide the principal radio entertainment of the East in the early part of the eve- ning, in a_concert broadeast by Sta- tions WRC, WJZ and WGY from the Sylvan Theater, Among the featured numbers on the program arranged by Mr. Bran- son, are the overture to “Maximilian Robesplerre,” by Litolff: two move- ments from Delibes’ ballet, “Sylvia’ the “Entrance of the Gods in Wal- hall,” “from Wagner's “Rheingold,” and the finale from Tschaikowsky’s “Fourth Symphony." " - A special feature of the band con- cert will be a duet for flute and Trench horn by Principal Musicians Clayton Lindsay and Adolphe Seidler, who" will render the “Serenade.” by 1t Other Musical Numbers. Other musical portions of WRC's program will be a concert by the Royal Salon Orchestra and an en- tertainment by “The Fireside Boys.” both of which programs will come from the studios of WJZ, New York. The evening's program will be opened with a sports resume, follow- ed by a radio-photo_play production, to be brought to Washington from New York City. WMAL, the Washington Radlo Forum, has scheduled three musical features tonight, starting with a studio program, and followed by syn- copated melodies by Phil Hayden and Les Colvin, and “Thirty Minutes of Melody,” by Edward Griffith. IONS URGES STAT TO RETAIN WAVES Commerce Department Asks U. S. Senders to Respect Bands Assigned to Canada. The operation of United States broadcasting stations on wave lengths that had been reserved by mutual agreement between the Department of Commerce and the Canadian gov- ernment for use by Canadian stations constitutes the most serious menace in the present unregulated broad- casting situation, according to sev- eral prominent leaders in the radio JULY 29, 1926 THURSDAY, 4:00—New York: News: solos: ¥§' ok Vogal solos the itladelphia: Spor 5;00—N 2 New York ildzen's program Stock _report: Hotel, Waldor{-Astoria Orche nn; Smilers; Stewartson's Orchestra 5 Ullclflfll: " Grgan roctia o 5i15—Newath: "ot Y S50 Riladelont: By’ arttord. Reports that additional United States stations plan to leave the wave lengths originally assigned to them and operate on certain of these re- served wave lengths have been re- ceived in Washington. Fears that “pirating” stations would take this course rather than usurp a wave length already in use by’ other United States broadcasters led the Department of Commerce to include in its recent announcement regarding the Department of Justice ruling a request to'the station managers that they observe the reservations made of the wave lengths for Canada. “There have always been the most cordial relations between the radio administrations in Canada and the United States,” the announcement stated. - “The department has re- frained from assigning to American stations the wave lengths in use in Canada and the Canadian authorities have reciprocated by avolding the wave' lengths assigned to our sta- tlons. A continuance of this policy is a mnecessity if international . cop- fusion is to be avoided. The De- partment of Commerce hopes, what- ever may ensue, that the sense of fair play as well as the interest in the protection of the situation as a whole will prevent any American station from trespassing upon the Canadian assignments.”” 2 It is admitted by officials of the de- partment that there is no legal action that can be taken against United States broadcasters who commence operation on one of the reserved fre- quencies, unless in so doing, inter- ference with another United States plant is caused. In the latter event, aoction could be taken by the station interferred with under the radio laws of 1912, It is doubted, however, that operation on one of the Canadian ‘wave lengths would be followed by interference with another Ull“q States transmitter, 3 Cincinnati: Hotel Gibron O Atlantic City: Hotel Morton New " Yori ""Sport tatk : 'Sport Chicago! The inductive reactance of a circuit is an element which depends on a number of different factors. The inductive reactance of a circuit is obtained by multiplying the product of the inductance and frequency of a circuit by-a constant. . It follows, then, that anything which affects the values of inductance and frequency also affects the inductive reactance of the circuit. Changing the frequency of a eircuit immediate- ly changes the inductive reactance of ‘a circuit, and it is this phenomenon which is responsible for the action whereby a circuit can be tuned to dif- ferent frequencies and thus make pos- sible simultaneous broadcast operation on different frequencies without inter- ference. 8 The other main factor which makes it possible to change the inductive re- actance of a circuit is any factor which tends. to.change the inductance in the circuit.
