ori THE EVENING -STAR, WASHINGION, D. €. THURSDAY,” JULY 29, 1926. $1.59 Stamped Nightgowns Fine(quulity splash voile stamped for simple embroidery. Completely made. Pink, blue, REPID TRANSITLINE PEDICES TSLOSS P djustments Cut $19,242 to $8,582 for First Six Months of Year. (‘artain adjustments in the accounts of the Washington Rapid Transit Co. for the first six months of the current calendar year have reduced the com- pany's previously reported losses on its operations within the District from $19,242.60 to $8,582.72, 'E. D. Merrill, president and general manager of the company, reported to the Public Util- ities Commission vesterday. The principal item which figured tn the reduction was that of maintenance, which was cut $9.940.77. $8,243.37 Loss in June. Mr. Merrill's report on the adjust- ments ‘was submitted to the commis- sion in connection with the company’s financial report for June. which show- ed that it lost $8,243.37 during the month on all of its lines. The num- ber of passengers carried. however, showed an increase of 12,841 over the corresponding _month of 1925. The revenue was $60.58 less than June, 1925, due, Mr. Merrill explained. to the lower rate of fare which has been in effect since January 1. “It should be kept in mind when comparing this year's results with those of last vear,” sald the report, “that there has been in effect since January 1, 1926, a rate of fare 4 per cent lower than the one in effect «Auring 11 months of 1925 and that an increased wage rate has been pald since January 1. (The wage is still low than that paid by the street railway companies). Results Fully Analyzed. If the rate and fare and wages had heen the same this year as last, the results of the six menths’ operation would, of course, have been more fa- vorable, still not showing a reasonable return on the investment. In that connection, the results for the last vear’s operation have been fully anal- vzed, and the operating profit, after iaxes for the entire vear. appgars to have been less than $9,000.”. The company is expected to file a petition next week asking for an in- crease in fare. HOLDER OF CANCELED PERMIT SEEKS RETURN Driver Whose License Was Re- voked After Fatal Accident Ap- peals to Commissioners. Willism Buckley, 20 years old, 1406 S street southeast, whose automobile operator permit was revoked by Trafic Director M. O. Eldridge fol- lowing an accident July 12, which re- sulted in the death of a woman, ap- pealed to the Commissioners yesterday *for the return of his privilege to drive a machine. It is the first ap- peal noted since passage of the amended traffic act, which gave the .traffic director authority to revoke permits, although Mr. Eldridge has cance®d more than 25 permits In that time. The Commissioners have not yet adopted a method of Procedure for hearing the appeals, but are expected to do so before Buckley's case is heard. A date for the hearing has not been set.
