The Washington Girl Scouts and their officers are congratulating Miss Betty Adams, field captain, in her new position as local director of Holyoke, Mass. The girls expressed their feeling on the subject at the court of awards, when they presented her with the new captain's thanks badge. Troop 22 had a party last Friday in honor of Troop 26 and also as n [farewell party to Miss Adams. As she entered Rittenhouse street she was met by the color guard and escorted to the place of meeting. \When re- freshinents were served two huge cakes were brought in, one with Miss Adams’ name on it ir pink icing and one for Troop 26. The court of awards, held Satur- day night in the gymnasium of the Wilson Normal School, was reported a success. Mrs. Gerritt S. Miller, deputy commissioner, began the pre: entation of the merit badges and at tendance stars at p.m. Troop Miss Margaret Tuckey, captain, was announced the winner of the silv cup given for excellence in the year's work. Troop Mrs. T. T. Read, Moving pictures of the Girl Scout camp in the Redwood Forest of California were shown by Miss Anne Fitzhugh. The formal part of the program began at 8 o'clock. There was an en- rollment of nine girls as first cla Scouts: Mildred McNair, Troop 1 Jois Hall, Ruth Hunt, Lydia Hunt, Dorothy Stubbs and Marjory Smit] of Troop 26; Cella Read, Troop 22: Laura Brundage, Troop 21, and Carol Carpenter of Troop 28. Mrs. Helen R. Scudder of the council made ‘b presentation of these badges. Five girls were awarded letters of com- mendation for their work in their troops and communities. They were Dorothy Stubbs, Troop 26; ~Laura Brundage, Troop 21; Cynthia Crocker, Troop 40; Helen Wheeler, Troop 4: and Leah Woods, Troop 15. Mr: Theodore H. Wilkinson of the council made the presentation. Marion Wheeler of Troop 13 was made a Golden Eaglet, the highest award in scouting. Miss Gwen Martin of Phila- delphia, and a member of the national board of directors, made the presenta- tion. Girls Scout Troop 1, Miss Julla Palmer, captain, met in the Com- munity Church at Potomac Height: The meeting opened with games, in- spection and patrol corners. Several compass games were played and a surprise party was given by the patrol leaders and captain Troop 10, Miss Hazel Scanlan, cap- tain, met June 5. After patrol corners the troop separated into groups, some (aking signaling. others compass and merit badge work. The members of the troop who received badges at the court of awards were Bernice Pitzer, Mary Elizabeth Robertson and Mary Champeno, second class badges. Sil- ver stars were awarded to Nell Grif- fith, Rena Bernstein, Audrey Turner, Frances Douglass, Benton Robinson, Sarah Levin and Effe Wade. Nell Criffith, Audrey Turner, Rena Bern- stein and Sarah Levin also received scholarship badges. Troop meetings will be discontinued after Saturday until the first Saturday after school opens in the Fall. Girls who do not | expect to go to camp this year will have an opportunity in the day camp to be conducted by Mrs. G. S. Miller, during July and August. Troop 12, Calvary M. E. Church’s group of Scouts, met, withi Miss Adah Bagby, captain, leading. At the meeting of the junior division Monday, four members passed the tenderfoot test. They were Grace Wood, Mary Yahres, Mary White and tests. An_investure ceremony took place at Christ Chureh Parish Hall June 1. Miss Gleaves did the invest- ing. A signaling demonstration was given by Harriet Brooke and Floride Hewitt. A firstaid demonstration was given by Mary Stuart and Jane Smoot. The mothers of the girls were present.
