SETTLEMENT OF CLAIMS BILL PASSED BY HOUSE Measure Will Relieve Congress of Much Legislative Work—Already Has Senate Approval. An amended Senate bill to facilltate the settlement of claims against the Government was passed by the House terday without a record vote. The measure provides that property claims under $5,000 can be settled by the head of the department involved, and for adjustment of those for in- jury or death for no larger sums hy the Employes’ Compensation Commis- sion. Claims above $5.000 would be ad- judicated by the Federal District Courts or the Court of Claims. The Senate passed the bill with the maximum to be settled by Gov- ernment departments fixed at $3.000.
