The luncheon was giveh at the Chevy Chase Club and there were 40 guests in the company. Senor and Senora de Aballi ‘Will Return This Evening. The Ambassador of Cuba and Senora de Aballi will come back to ‘Washington tonight after a brief visit in New York at the Plaza Hotel. The Minister of the Irish Free State, Mr. Timothy J. Smiddy, has returned to Washington after a short stay in New York. Senator and Mrs. Frederick H. Gil- tett will have as guests over the week end the latter's son-inlaw and daugh- ter, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher LaFarge of New York, who will arrive in Washington Friday. Among other events, they will attend the Bruce Mellon wedding Saturday. Senator and Mrs. Frederic M. Sackett returned this morning from New York, where they spent the week erd at the Hotel Ambagsador. Mrs. Deneen, wife of Senator Charles S. Deneen of Chicago, was hostess to the members of the Illinols delegation to the conference of the National Federation of Women's Clubs which is being held in Atlantic City. The members of the delegation spent vesterday in Washington. Representative and Mrs. William E. Hull will close their apartment at IWardman Park Hotel the 1st of June and will leave for their home in Peoria, TIl,, for the Summer. The Argentine government is cele- brating the 116th anniversary of its independence today, and the members of the embassy staff here, will cele- brate the event at an informal tea party this afternoo: Mrs. Leland Har n, wife of the Assistant Secretary of State, will leave Washington today for the Sum- mer, going first to Philadelphia, where she will spend some time with her father, Mr. B. Dawson Coleman, in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Later in the season Mr. Harrison will join her and they probably will go to one of the resorts. The Secretary of the German em- bassy and Frau Schlimpert will en- tertain at dinner this evening in the presidential dining room of the May- flower in compliment to Conte and Contessa di Pagliano, who will sall * the end of the month for Helsingfors where the conte will assume his du- ties as Minister to Finland. The United States Ambassador to Spain, Mr. Ogden H. Hammond, gave his first reception vesterday in the new embassy building. Among his guests were Premier Primo de Rivera, all the members of his cabinet and the entire diplomatic corps in Madrid. Maj. Gen. George Barnett will come to Washington today from his country home, Wakefield Manor, Va., to make the acquaintance of Henry West Suy- dam, jr., infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry West Suydam. Mrs. Suydam was formerly Miss Anne Gordon, daughter of Mrs. George Barnett. Capt. and Mrs. Emory Scott Land will be hosts at dinner this evening.
