The car service division of the American Rallway Assoclation in a report submitted yesterday at a meet- Ing of the board of directors of the ll"lr organization estimated that oading of revenue freight for the first tuur months in 1926 would total 16,655,676 cars. According to this estimate, which is for the first 18 weeks in 1926 (from January 1 to May 1), loading of revenue freight for that perfod would exceed by 86,968 cars, or .63 per cent the total for the corresponding period in 1925 and by 665,781 cars, or 34 per cent the total for the corresponding perfod in 1924. It also would exceed by 612,953 cars, or 3.2 per cent the corresponding perfod in 1923. This estimate is based on the best obtainable information from various Sources and partly on reports received by the car service division from the commodity committees of the various shippers’ regional advisory boards located in all parts of the United States as to the general business out- look for the year. FINANCIAL, DRY GOODS MARKET QUIET WITH SOFTENING TREND NEW YORK, March 20 (#).—Cotton g0ods markets were quiet today with 2 softening trend, due in part to buy- uncertainties concerning prices, which were enhanced by the abundant cotton yield shown in the day's Gov- ernment ginning report. Printed cot- tons and rayons in plain, printed and woven styles were active. Raw silk was lower at Yokohama but steady here, with some houses asking much higher figures. Silk goods were in moderate demand with the low grades irregular in price. Further openings of wool and worsted dress goods lines are expected to bring forward more business during the coming week. Burlaps eased off again at Calcutta but. remained fairly steady here. Trading was quiet. Llnenu .howed some improvement. SELLING ORDERS SEND WHEAT TUMBLING Market Breaks 10 1-2 Cents a Bushel in 48 Hours—Export Business Aids in Rally. By the Associated Prese. CHICAGO, March 20.—Aggressive selling on the part of houses with Eastern connections resulted today in smashing the wheat market down to 1035 cents a bushel below prices which were current 48 hours ago. Many owners whose funds had be- come exhausted were forced to join in the selling as the market continued to break. Some export business, though, which developed on the down- turns, helped to rally wheat prices at the last. Corn showed stubborn resistance to selling pressure, and with better buying near the end of the day the market finally scored gains. BALTIMORE, March 20 (Special). —With the near approach of Easter, demand for live cattle continues to ease off, and it takes very little stock to supply the demand prevalling, which is centered principally on first- grade quality and not much call for common to ordinary cattle. BANK MOVESHUGE SUMTONEW HOME $20,000,000 of Federal- American Institution Is Safely Transferred. Securities estimated by John Poole president of the Federal-American Bank, to have reached a possible total of $20,000,000 were moved through the streets of Washington last night from the bank’s old home on F street to the new bullding a: Fourteenth and G streets and safely placed in the new vaults. This un usual proceeding was carried our without a single hitch. Shortly after midnight the moving job was fin ished, very few people on the streets realizing that anything o unusual as moving a bank’s valuables was tak ing place. The actual value of the securities is largely a matter of guesswork The bank officials always know the total value of their own securities but never know the value of the money, securities, jewelry or any other valuables that are kept in the safe deposit boxes of their customers Many times almost priceless gems are placed in these vaults, and las® night’s transfer, of course, included the contents of every one of these boxes. In addition to the bank's own funds including stocks, bonds and securi ties of xlmost every description, ther: was a large amount of work involved in the moving of adding machines, typewriters and very large and in: portant record books. In order prop erly to guard the money, stocks and honds and other securities the Polic« Department furnished a large num ber of extra policemen in addition 1 the bank's private detectives. To give still further protection the mos! valuable securities were locked ir safes, which were placed on moto trucks for the transfer. The officlals felt that a gre: weight had been lifted from thel: shoulders when the moving was com pleted. The bank will open for busi- ness as usual tomorrow morning During last week's housewarming the doorman’s counter showed that 18,000 people dropped in to see the new headquarters and congratulate the officials on the completion of such a fine new home.
