Weak- ness of quotations at Liverpool was largely responsible for the selling here, although the action of the Liver- pool market was attributed largely to nervousness over yesterday’s stock market decline in New York. The improvement was most pronounced in the more speculative rails and was slowest in the high-grade investment issues and in the foreign obligations. The feature was, of course, the rails and particularly the bonds of the roads. which made up the Nickel Plate group. The Eries, which had been sold so heavily and with such exten- sive losses on Wednesday, advanced sharply, The Chesapeake and Ohio convertible 5s, at 132, were up 5 points from the previous close.
