THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, T, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1925 AT THE PALAIS ROYAL The Greatest Value This Season in Beautiful Fur-Trimmed Coats g For Women and Misses Specially Priced for This Occasion at “Kresge Spirit” exemplified at the Palais Royal Banquet Saturday Evening SHr 7y £ Saturday evening at the City Club over six hundred Executives and Co-Workers of the Palais Roy- al were given a “get-together” ban- quet, at which Mr. S. S. Kresge was the guest of honor. Anyone who attended that ban- quet and did not come away from it thoroughly imbued with the Kresge Spirit would, in war par- lance, be placed in the hard-boiled class. Many reasons have been ad- vanced for success, but when one sees an outstanding success in the business world, there is always, away back, a sound fundamental reason. To those people who are associated in the Palais Royal, one of the units of the Kresge Depart- ment Stores, the reason for Mr. Kresge's astonishing success is very apparent. At the banquet Mr. Kresge, in a quiet brief way, sketched for those present, an outline of his life, —an inspiration in itself to all those who wonder sometimes if it is possible to begin at the bottom rung of the ladder and finally reach the top. Mr. Kresge’s motto—the founda- tion on which he builds his business enterprises, is “Courtesy and Ser- vice.” These two things he stressed as those which all who were asso- ciated with him must render to the public. A smiling face and a sincere desire to help are other requisites of service to customers —smiles not upon the surface but straight from the heart, and it isn't hard for the organization to smile and be contented, and pass on the smiles and desire to help, when such a spirit prevails throughout the store—engendered by the ex- ample set by him. Mr. Kresge came down from New York and brought with him several of his associates, just to be present at this banquet and to min- gle with the co-workers of the Pa- lais Royal and get personally ac- quainted with them. It is this Kresge Spirit which has made the business of the Palais Royal go ahead. by leaps and bounds since it became one of the units of the Kresge Department Stores, and- it is this spirit which will continue to greet the customers —which make it a friendly store and one which will strive through every one of its workers to reach out and be of service to everyone with whom they come in contact. The store itself is every day taking on a new atmosphere, due in part to the changes which are be- ing constantly planned and made to make it more convenient and render greater service to its cus- tomers. And suggestions from customaers of ways to accomplish this end are gladly welcomed. If any occur to you send them in.
