Park areas in the District of Co- lumbia have a tentative value of $155,882,180.63 for 563 reservations, according to figures made public by Lieyt. Col. Clarence O. Sherill, direc- tor of the office of public buildings and public parks of the National Capital. Col. Sherrill said that the figures were by no meaps final, as no effort hgd heen made recently ac- curately to appraise the park system as a whole. The figures were com- piled at varioys times over a period of years by employes of his office, and not by any board of appraisal. The land itself in the park ares is valued at $141,026,744.53, while the improvements total $14,089,500.19. In the Monument grounds there are 4,617,078 square feet, with a land value of §2.05 g square foot. The total present value of the Monument grounds, including the structure, is given as §19,658,108. Rock Creek Park embraces 605.9 es, and the value placed on it is 2 cents a square foot. The Rock reek and Potomac Parkway s esti- mated to be worth $1,393,654. This land is sald to be worth a lttle more thap 16 cepiy a squgrm foot. ARs- costia Park embraces 2,749,071 square feet, with a land value of 6 cents a square foot.
