Va., July 15 (#). —An attempt to dynamite the Gil- christ mine, a non-union operation of the West Virginia-Pittsburgh Coal Co., near here, was frustrated early today, company officlals declared, when mine guards discovered 165 sticks of dynamite with fuses attached in the fanhouse and generator build- ing. Jess Johnson, a striking miner, was arrested later at his home as a sus- pect. FOR DRIVING CAR DRUNK Collides With Another Machine At Falls Church—Liquor Found in Auto. Lewis S. Benton, who claimed he was a prohibition enforcement agent, was arrested Monday night at Falls Church, Va., on charges of being in- toxicated and driving an automobile recklessly. He gave his address as a house in the 500 block on Ninth street, Washington. Prohibition officials here said Ben- ton s not connected with the Wash- ington force. The arrest was made by Traffic Of- ficer Rust after Benton's car had col- lided with a machine operated by Ernest Porch. A small amount of liquor was found in Benton's ma- ohine, the officer reported. Justice Mohling, at Falls Church, fined Fenton $20 and costs vesterday finding him gullty of the intoxication charge and dismisssed the reckless driving count upon payment of $10 by Benton to cover the damages to Porch's car. Lawn Fete Planned Tomorrow for Tuberculosis Patients. The patients at the Tuberculosis Hospital will have a band concert and lawn fete tomorrow evening at 7 o'clock on the spacious grounds of the hospital at streets, to which their friends and the public are invited. The music is to be furnished by the band of the Army Music School, under the direc- tion of Principal Willam G. White, which has been engaged by the ortho- pedic welfare committee of the Ki- wanis Club, of which Franc Sheiry is the chairman. Following the musical program there will be a display of the art and craft work produced by the occupa- tional therapy department, which is maintained by the Washington Tu- berculosis Association, under the di- rection of Mrs. Agnes Stewart. Guests will also have an opportunity to visit the hospital and the health camp in the rear conducted by the Tubercu- losis Association for the benefit of underweight children. 1. 0. 0. F. TO HOLD OUTING. 3,000 Expected on Annual Excur- sion Tomorrow. The Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows will hold its an- nual excursion tomorrow at Chesa- peake Beach, attracting more than 3.000 persons.
