NEW YORK, July 15.—Simultane- cusly with the drop to in call mone: below 4 per cent and the strength and activity in stocks there was a slight improvement in the bond market, but it was very slight. The indications were that the stock and the bond markets had parted com pany. Such advances as occurred in high-grade bonds were without signifi- cance and on the other hand the sup ply at current levels was large. Liberties Do Better. In the United States Government list Liberties did better, relatively, than the Treasury issues. Of the latter both the 4s and 4%s went lower. In the Liberties the fourth 4%s were in the greatest demand. High-grade railroad bonds which did bettex, in- cluded Union Pacific first 4s, New York Central 5s and Southern Pacific refunding 4s. Consolidated Gas had a substantial rise among the utilities, while there was further uc- tivity in Delaware and Hudson con vertible 5s in sympathy with the stock. CHICAGO, July 15 .— With Indica- tions of cooler clear weather Northwest likely to minimize crop damage, wheat averaged lower in price today during the early dealings. Reports of black stem rust attacking Spring wheat continued both from south and north of the Canadian boundary, but, ac- cording to trade authorities, the weather was the paramount factor at the moment. the things most feared being high temperatures, high hu- midity and high winds. Trade was active, but buying was mostly evi- dent as setbacks In price. The open- ing, % to 1% lower, with September 153 to 1.58% and December 1.53 to 1.53%, was followed by a moderate upturn and then by a drop that car ried September down to 1.51% and December to 1.52% Corn and oats reflected the changes in the wheat market. The amount booked for the outer wear knit trade has been smaller than usual. BOSTON, July 15.—Prices of bitu- minous coal have strengthened, with dealers naming $5.35 a ton as the minimum. NEW ORLEANS, July 15.—The Southern Pine Association mills show- ed a slight increase in orders and a sharp falling off in production and shipment last week. DETROIT, July 15.—Shipments of Hupp motor cars for the first six months of this year totaled 19,437, as against 17,458 in 1924.
